Roberto Ippoliti, who records as RBX, is a producer from Rome writing some of the most distinctive tracks coming out of Italy’s hard techno scene. His sound sits between hard techno and neo-rave, with the 90s rave DNA you’d expect from someone born in 1996 and pulled into the music through that lineage. Where a lot of producers in this space lean fully on distorted kicks and pace, his writing leaves room for melody and tension, and that’s the thing that has set his releases apart.

He started releasing in 2018 and his catalogue now stretches across some of the most respected labels in the harder end of the scene. His 2023 ‘Breakdown’ EP on Trash Tunes was a turning point, with the four originals picked up by AnD, DXPE and LESSSS for remix duties, a strong vote of confidence from peers further up the scene. Earlier work like ‘Heavy Bastard’ and ‘Old Lesson’ on Ninetimesnine’s Hidden Gems Vol.1 showed the same instinct for tracks that hit hard without losing their groove.

His writing reaches a wide audience of producers and DJs working at the top of the genre, with tracks regularly played by 999999999, Trym, Nico Moreno, AnD, Alignment, Charlie Sparks and Parfait. He also writes often in collaboration, including a long-running partnership with fellow Roman producer Mr.Machine.
